Welcome to The Sweet and The Salty!
Before you get started here, I’d love to take a moment to introduce myself to you. So without further ado, here’s who I am.
Hi, I’m Jody. Nice to meet you!
I’m a former church worker turned social worker turned stay at home mom. Of the three, my favorite is my current gig: stay at home mom.
I’m a midwesterner by birth and at heart, but these days I enjoy the sunny side of life in a place where the seasons don’t change. (The natives here think they do, but really they don’t).
I’m an avid reader, always have been, always will be.
I’m not a very consistent cook, to be honest. Freezer cooking and meal planning helps me get homecooked meals on the table a bit more, but even with that we eat out way more than I would like. It’s something I’m working on.
I don’t clean my own home. I outsource this with the money we save by not having cable, making my own beauty products, cutting my own hair, and by using coupons. I am passionate about saving money and also saving time. If it’s a choice between the two, as long as we can afford it saving time will always win.
That time that I am passionate about saving, I spend with my family.
Seven years ago I married an amazing man who has really become my best friend. Most of the time we’re happy but there are times when we’re not and during those times we’re committed.
We have one son here with us and two babies enjoying heaven (by way of miscarriage). I wrote about that here.
Our son, who we call Champion, is a joyful, adventurous strong willed child who was born with a very rare chromosomal anomaly called Miller Dieker Syndrome. He has many challenges, but loving life definitely isn’t one of them.
He’s currently working on getting off his g-tube, is making amazing strides walking in his walker, and pretty much spends his time defying odds. He has made my life so much more meaningful and he is the inspiration for this blog.
Champion is nothing short of a miracle… a miracle in the making… as his whole story is yet to unfold. You can learn more about him here.
I believe we were put on this earth to be there for each other and connect in meaningful ways. I hope through my blog you and I are able to do that.
